Aquaculture Research a. Breeding and habitat biology of the jellyfishes of Sarawak waters. b. Research on the culture of trevally 'ikan cermin' in floating net-cages. c. Penaeid hatchery development in Pusat Pengeluaran Benih Udang, PPBU Belawai, Sarikei. d. Diagnosis of white spot virus in the tiger shrimp and research in molecular genetics and fish/shrimp diseases. This branch also runs the JLPS Fish Quarantine Centre laboratory on a short term basis for the training of JPLS staff. Achievements
The Sarawak Branch of FRI was able to determine the baseline inventory for Sarawak's seaweed resources and also to investigate the existence of the commercially viable seaweeds such as Gracilaria changii and Gracilaria identify the areas and fish species for recreational fishing in mangrove areas, this indirectly creates opportunities for ecotourism and helps to develop recreational fishing on a sustainable basis as an industry in Sarawak.
